BERLIN--Vodafone Group PLC (VOD.LN) said Friday its German unit will be headed by outgoing Telekom Austria AG (TKA.VI) Chief Executive Hannes Ametsreiter.

The appointment is effective Oct. 1, pending supervisory board approval on June 30. Mr. Ametsreiter will also become a member of the Vodafone Group executive committee.

Telekom Austria said Monday Mr. Ametsreiter requested to terminate his contract with effect from July 31. He has been Telekom Austria CEO since 2009.
