Air Date Set for Centex Homes Episode of 'Extreme Makeover: Home Edition' Seven Days Changed a Family's Life Forever CHANTILLY, Va., Jan. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Seven days in Kingston, Washington changed the lives of one special family and more than 700 volunteers led by Centex Homes. On Sunday, Jan. 9, ABC-TV viewers nationwide will be able to see this amazing story unfold on the network's No. 1 hit show, "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition." Viewers will also see how the build took place as part of ABC's new show - - "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition - How'd They Do That?" -- premiering Monday night, Jan. 10 at 8pm EST, 7pm Central. The home of Rosanne Dore, a widowed mother of three teenage daughters -- Jessica, Sarah and Aariel -- burned down in March. Following the fire, Dore learned her insurance was inadequate to rebuild the home. As the local elementary school's cafeteria server, Dore's income is limited and her only choice was to move her family into a utility shed until she could determine her next steps. She applied through "Extreme Makeover" for assistance and was asked to submit a videotape explaining the family's circumstances. After review, the show's producers selected her as a recipient. This was the first home built from the ground up since HomeAid America, a national not-for-profit organization that builds shelters for the temporarily homeless, and "Extreme Makeover" formed a partnership to build specially selected homes for needy families for the show's second season. Centex Homes provided the Dores with a home valued at approximately $500,000 and designed it to allow them to convert a portion to a bed and breakfast. Centex provided the Dores homeowner's insurance and paid off the remaining mortgage debt on their burned structure. Moreover, approximately 800 Centex employees nationwide contributed more than $50,000 to a scholarship fund for the three daughters that totaled nearly $75,000. Doug Barnes, division president of Centex Homes in Seattle, Wash. and the company's project lead, said, "It's truly a privilege for us to impact these four lives by doing what we do best: building a quality home. It was a thrill for me to see Centex employees from the West Coast and across the company come together to help not only this amazing family, but also the community at large." HomeAid America selected Centex Homes for this because of the company's reputation for building excellence and its longstanding commitment to charitable organizations and causes. Centex has contributed the equivalent of more than 200 homes to local communities over the past 10 years. Since its inception in 1989, HomeAid America has assisted more than 20,000 temporarily homeless persons across the country. "We looked to Centex Homes as a partner because of its stellar reputation for quality workmanship and its ongoing national support of community service," said Genette Eaton, CEO of HomeAid America. "Centex moved mountains to help change the future for this family." Conrad Ricketts, senior producer for "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition," said, "For a year Dore and her three daughters were living in a shed and cooking in a makeshift kitchen outside. Centex came to their rescue and brought hope and a future where none existed. On behalf of the cast and crew of 'Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,' we thank the countless Centex employees across the country for joining with us in changing a very deserving family's life."
