Perceptron, Inc. (NASDAQ: PRCP), a leading provider of information-based process improvement solutions for non-contact measurement and inspection applications, today announced that it has begun the installation of its first Helix order from a Japanese transplant customer in the United Kingdom. The order is important because it represents the first time Perceptron will install one of its in-line dimensional gauging systems for this customer in Europe. The project resulted from many months of sales and engineering efforts to assure the customer of the value that Perceptron's automated systems can provide.

John M. P. Kearney, Perceptron's Managing Director for Europe, said, "Prior to winning the order we had to perform a stringent set of tests designed by the customer. It was an internationally coordinated effort using Perceptron technical experts located in Germany, Japan and the UK. We passed these tests with flying colors and the customer was convinced of our ability and the real value of measuring complex 3D features on the car body using our Helix technology. The system is what we refer to as a `hybrid' as it utilizes robot mounted Helix sensors to measure dimensional features on the car body and fixed TriCam sensors to optically locate the part using our Visual Fixturing technology."

Harry T. Rittenour, Perceptron's President and CEO, added, "This is not a particularly large order in financial terms, but it is nevertheless significant for our company as it represents our first order at this particular Japanese manufacturer in Europe and utilizes our Helix hardware and software platform. We hope to use this project as a stepping stone to win additional business with this Japanese OEM, as well as others in the UK and elsewhere, and we believe that our Helix technology will play an important part in executing this plan."
