NetLogic Microsystems, Inc. (NASDAQ:NETL), the leader in the design
and development of knowledge-based processors, today announced that
its NL6000 knowledge-based processor family has been selected for
the Tellabs(R) 7100 optical transport system. The NL6000 series was
selected due to its high performance, large database capacity,
small package footprint and the industry's lowest power
consumption. Tellabs has recently announced that Verizon
Communications selected the 7100 system to provide next-generation
solutions in the backbone of Verizon's metro networks. Verizon will
initially deploy the 7100 in its FiOS Fiber-to-the-Premises
triple-play network. The Tellabs 7100 system is part of the Tellabs
DynamicHome(SM) solution, which enables service providers to
deliver advanced video, voice and data services to residences and
businesses. The Tellabs 7100 system integrates pure optical
switching via wavelength selective switches (WSS), ROADM
(reconfigurable optical add-drop multiplexing), Ethernet switching,
next-generation SONET/SDH ADMs (add-drop multiplexers) and DWDM
(dense wave division multiplexing) into a single platform. It
decreases operating expenses by eliminating network elements and
reducing equipment interconnections. The Tellabs 7100 system uses
the NL6000 with a network processor to enable wire-speed Ethernet
switching capabilities with a rich feature set. The Verizon FiOS
system offers groundbreaking broadband access to residential and
business customers by leveraging the enormous capacity of
fiber-optic links. By employing pulses of laser light traveling
over optical fiber instead of electrical signals traveling over
cable or telephone lines, the high-speed FiOS service offers
connection speeds of up to 50 Megabits-per-second (Mbps) or up to
30 Mbps downstream and 5 Mbps upstream. This enables the delivery
of multiple channels of high-definition digital television and
movies, multi-media entertainment, and digital voice
communications. "We are excited that our NL6000 knowledge-based
processor has been selected for the Tellabs 7100 optical transport
system that is being deployed by leading service providers such as
Verizon to enable triple-play broadband services," said Ron Jankov,
president and chief executive officer of NetLogic Microsystems.
"This is further testament to the advanced feature set and
processing capabilities of our knowledge-based processors to meet
the demands of next-generation networks." Key to NetLogic
Microsystems' knowledge-based processor design is the use of
parallel processing, deep pipelining techniques and advanced power
management techniques, which allow the device to handle multiple
tasks at higher throughput rates while still maintaining the lowest
possible system power. Parallel processing enables multiple
decisions to be made simultaneously for QoS, access control for
security and voice/video packet forwarding, all of which
significantly improves the performance of advanced Internet
applications such as Internet Protocol Television (IPTV), voice
over Internet Protocol (VoIP), video on demand (VoD) and audio
video file sharing and downloading. These performance enhancements
are even more critical when supporting the IPv6 protocol. The
combination of parallel search capabilities, deep pipelining
techniques, lowest power consumption, smallest package size and the
highest speed and performance in the marketplace makes NetLogic
Microsystems' products an excellent fit for the new generation of
switches and routers with advanced QoS, security and IPv6
functionality. NetLogic Microsystems' knowledge-based processors
are available in production quantities now. For volume pricing

Microsystems NetLogic Microsystems, Inc. (NASDAQ:NETL), a fabless
semiconductor company located in Mountain View, Calif., designs,
develops and markets high performance knowledge-based processors
for a variety of advanced Internet, corporate and other networking
systems, such as routers, switches, network security appliances,
network access equipment and networked storage devices. NetLogic
Microsystems' knowledge-based processors use an advanced processor
architecture and a large knowledge or signature database to make
complex decisions about individual packets of information traveling
through the network. Knowledge-based processors from NetLogic
Microsystems significantly enhance the ability of networking OEMs
to supply network service providers with systems offering more
advanced functionality for the Internet, such as application-based
routing, voice transmission over the Internet, or VoIP, unified
threat management (UTM) network security, virtual private networks,
or VPNs, and streaming video and audio. NetLogic Microsystems'
knowledge-based processors are interoperable with industry-leading
CPUs, NPUs and routing/switching processors. For more information
