REPURCHASE OF ORDINARY SHARES FOR CANCELLATION

The Mercantile Investment Trust plc today purchased 23,000 ordinary shares for cancellation at 1,736.00 pence per share.

Following the transaction the remaining shares in issue total 95,957,040.

The Company does not hold any shares in Treasury.
