Compact Power Holdings plc: New Contract
Compact Power wins #238,000 order from QinetiQ
for Royal Navy shipboard waste system
Compact Power Holdings plc, the AIM quoted energy from waste
company is pleased to announce that an order has been received from QinetiQ
Holdings plc for the design and supply of a waste processing plant to be
installed in HMS Ocean the Royal Navy's largest surface vessel.
This order valued at #238,000, follows the successful construction and operation
of a prototype for QinetiQ at their test facility at Haslar near Gosport,
Hampshire.
The plant will reduce the solid waste on the ship to an inert ash that can be
easily and cleanly stored prior to unloading when the vessel docks.
The technology is a small-scale version of Compact Power's pyrolysis and
gasification process that produces energy from waste with minimal environmental
impact.
Compact Power Chairman Nic Cooper commented:
"Our collaboration with QinetiQ is now bearing fruit. With them we have
successfully developed this very special version of our process and demonstrated
its potential to assist the Navy with the problem of treating waste at sea.
There is significant interest in this application from other navies and ship
operators."
Ian Grant, QinetiQ Business Development Manager added:
"Following the success of the land based trials on the MKI ST150 unit, QinetiQ
are very pleased to be able to award Compact Power the contract for the
manufacture of the first production unit to be installed on HMS Ocean. By
combining the technical knowledge of both companies QinetiQ feel confident that
we have a world beating technology for the treatment of Waste on Marine Vessels
and that this will be a major step forward in allowing the Royal Navy to meet
its future goal of setting the environmental standard for the operation of
military vessels around the world."
