    COSTAIN GROUP PLC
    ("Costain" or "the Group")

    Contain awarded major five-year highways contract

    Costain, in a joint venture with consultants Halcrow and contractor Colas, has been awarded by the Highways Agency a five-year �220
million Managing Agent Contractor ('MAC') contract. 

    Under the contract, the joint venture will carry out a range of operational and routine maintenance services and deliver improvements on
the motorways and trunk roads in the East Midlands. This covers the motorways and trunk roads in the counties of Derbyshire, Leicestershire,
Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire, Nottinghamshire and Rutland.

    The contract will take effect from 1 July 2009.

    Commenting on the contract award, Andrew Wyllie, Chief Executive, said:

    "The award of this important five year contract reflects our continuing strategic focus on major "blue chip" customers, and reinforces
Costain's position as a leading player in the construction and maintenance of highways in the UK."
