BOWATER ANNOUNCES DELISTING OF ITS COMMON STOCK ON THE LONDON STOCK EXCHANGE

Bowater Incorporated (NYSE:BOW) today announced that, in view of minimal trading
volumes, it has elected to cancel the listing of its common stock on the
London Stock Exchange effective February 2, 2006. The stock will continue to be
listed on the New York Stock Exchange and the Pacific Stock Exchange in the
United States.

Bowater Incorporated, headquartered in Greenville, SC, is a leading producer of
newsprint, coated mechanical and specialty papers. In addition, the company
