            Result of Extraordinary General Meeting
                               
The  Board  of  Avocet announces that at  the  extraordinary
general  meeting  of  the Company held  earlier  today,  the
ordinary  resolutions  to give the  Directors  authority  to
allot new Ordinary Shares; to approve the Panel's waiver  of
any   obligation  on  the  part  of  The  Liverpool  Limited
Partnership  (or  Elliott Associates, L.P.) and/or  Westgate
International L.P. to make a general offer for the  Ordinary
Shares  of  the  Company; and to approve the APT  Repurchase
Arrangements  (as  set  out in the notice  of  extraordinary
general meeting dated 9 April 1998), were duly passed.

Provisional allotment letters in respect of entitlements  to
new  Ordinary Shares under the rights issue announced by the
Company  on 9 April 1998, will be posted to shareholders  of
the  Company  (other  than  certain  overseas  shareholders)
today.   It  is  expected that dealings in the new  Ordinary
Shares, nil paid, will commence on 1 May 1998.

The  latest time and date for acceptance and payment in full
under the rights issue is 3.00pm on 27 May 1998.
