Shares of Prairie Mining Ltd. (PDZ.AU) rose Wednesday after the coal company said it is in talks with Polish peer Jastrzebska Spolka Weglowa SA (JSW.WA) over coal projects in Poland.

Prairie, which has listings in Australia and the U.K., said discussions are currently focused on a possible cooperation between the two businesses, after press reports indicated JSW may be interested in buying Prairie's assets.

Prairie said even if the talks move into discussions of specific transaction terms, there can't be any certainty that a deal would be agreed. It also said any potential transaction may be subject to conditions related to funding.

London-listed shares in Prairie at 1028 GMT were up 16% at 29 pence.
