Seaboard Farms, Inc. to Acquire Daily's Foods and Expand Processed
Meats SHAWNEE MISSION, Kan., May 20 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ --
Seaboard Farms, Inc., announced today that it had entered into an
agreement to acquire Daily's, a bacon processor located in the
Western United States. The acquisition will include Daily's two
bacon processing plants located in Salt Lake City and Missoula,
Mont. Seaboard expects to complete the transaction by early July.
"This is a bold step forward in value-added pork products for
Seaboard Farms," says Rod Brenneman, president of Seaboard Farms,
Inc. "Daily's reputation for quality and food safety fits well with
Seaboard Farms and will allow us to further expand our integrated
pork model. We're excited about Daily's and their management team
becoming part of Seaboard Farms." The two Daily's Foods plants
produce premium sliced and precooked bacon for food service. The
company, formed in 1893, has developed a strong food service brand
in the West. Seaboard Farms plans to continue using the Daily's
brand. The Daily's bacon plants will become part of the newly
created Seaboard Farms Processed Meats Division. Mark Wilson,
president of Daily's Foods, will serve as Seaboard Farms Processed
Meats division president, and the other Daily's officers will have
similar positions with the Processed Meats Division as well.
Daily's Foods has been a long-time customer of Seaboard Farms,
creating a good relationship and understanding of each company's
capabilities. Through its integrated pork system, Seaboard Farms
produces high-quality zero-scribe, center-cut pork bellies used for
premium center-cut bacon production. Seaboard Farms produces and
sells retail and food service products under the PrairieFresh(R)
Premium Pork brand. "We're excited about leveraging our expertise
in fresh meats with the Daily's processed meats experience," says
Brenneman. "The Daily's management team brings a wealth of
experience in the processed meats area and this will allow us to
grow and expand their bacon product line as well as other value-
added pork products." Almost two years ago, Seaboard Farms began to
aggressively pursue the food service market. The addition of
Daily's bacon products will allow Seaboard Farms to offer a wider
spectrum of pork products, while still providing customers with the
quality and food safety they've come to expect from Seaboard Farms.
"We're very excited about Daily's joining Seaboard Farms and see
this as just one more step in expanding our integrated pork model
into other value- added products," Brenneman says. Seaboard Farms,
Inc., headquartered in Shawnee Mission, Kan., is a leading
integrated food producer and processor of pork in the United
States, and a top exporter to Japan and Mexico. The company employs
more than 4,000 people in Oklahoma, Kansas, Colorado and Texas, and
markets pork products under the PrairieFresh(R) Premium Pork brand.
