Alumina Ltd. (AWC) earned US$41 million in dividends from its joint venture with U.S. aluminum producer Alcoa Inc. (AA) in the third quarter of 2010, the company said Friday.

Alumina Ltd., which owns 40% of the Alcoa World Alumina and Chemicals joint venture, the world's largest alumina producer, released the statement to the Australian Securities Exchange after Alcoa released third-quarter earnings overnight Thursday.

Alcoa's earnings fell 21% but it provided a bullish outlook for aluminum demand on the basis of improving consumption in emerging markets.

Alumina is an intermediate commodity in the production of aluminum from bauxite ore.
