Unilever PLC (ULVR.LN) has named Amazon.com Inc.'s (AMZN) head
of consumables Sunny Jain to be the new president of its
personal-care and beauty unit, bringing an industry veteran with
expertise in a range of consumer goods and e-commerce to the
consumer-goods giant.
Unilever's previous personal-care head Alan Jope was recently
promoted to be the company's new chief executive, leaving a
leadership void at the top of Unilever's largest and most important
division.
Unilever, which owns Ben & Jerry's ice cream and Dove soap,
has been steadily shifting its footprint toward high-growth
personal care--and more recently beauty--a particularly high-growth
space.
Beauty and personal care made up 41% of Unilever's sales last
year, with the rest coming from home care, food and refreshments.
Under Mr. Jope, the company has made a string of acquisitions of
high-end skin care brands, including ones that appeal to specific
ethnic groups.
Mr. Jain will begin his new role at Unilever in June.
