General Motors (GM) said Friday that Cadillac will be its lead electric vehicle brand.

GM said in November that it would stop producing its current plug-in hybrid, the Chevrolet Volt.

Cadillac will introduce the first model from the company's new battery electric vehicle offerings, the company said. The platform will provide an array of body styles and will be offered in front-wheel, rear-wheel and all-wheel confgurations.

The automaker said the battery system will also be adjustable, based on vehicle and customer requirements.
