Bitcoin Global News (BGN)
November 07, 2018 -- ADVFN Crypto NewsWire -- One of the major
misconceptions of the cryptocurrency and blockchain space is that
blockchains and Bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies are synonymous.
Further, it’s often thought that blockchain was created by Bitcoin.
More accurately, “blockchain technology” is a group of smaller
inventions pooled together to achieve certain goes, and the design
of Bitcoin incorporates much of these.
One of the most important aspects
of Bitcoin is the proof-of-work consensus mechanism. This is what
makes it more beneficial for participants in the network, such as
miners, to act properly instead of attempting to use their
computing power to hack or steal from others. This concept stems
from a much older system created by Adam Black with HashCash back
in 1997 - he is now the CEO of Blockstream, a major developer of
the Bitcoin network. The idea is to integrate a penalty for sending
emails or messages that aren’t sincere.
Salesforce
Patent
Digital spam and junkmail has been
a problem now for decades. “Messaging systems and methods that
employ a blockchain to ensure integrity of message delivery” was
originally filed July 12, 2016. The patent references well over 150
other patents dating as far back as the late 1990s. In fact, the
first recorded concept of method for deterring spam in emails was
proposed in 1992 - "Pricing via Processing or Combatting Junk
Mail."
“An email messaging system is
provided that includes a first email message server, a second email
message server and a distributed database system that stores a
blockchain.”
This new patent from Salesforce
takes a broader look at the concept, as now there are thousands of
methods for people to send messages to each other via text, apps,
email and workplace platforms with messaging systems built in. The
patent highlights one downfall of many current defense mechanisms
for spam where potentially important messages are wrongly
identified as spam, then never reaching the intended recipient. In
addition, using a distributed blockchain style network, the huge
amount of data consumed by office messaging systems is condensed
through the hashing process used by most public blockchains and
cryptocurrencies.
Matching
Mechanism
The system described utilizes a
matching mechanism via small portions of messages sent on the given
network. The two primary benefit is to prevent messages from being
altered while in transit form send to receiver, and that messages
from unidentified external sources can more easily be separated.
There are a myriad of additional use cases, such as guaranteeing
the authenticity of medical records, educational transcripts,
deeds, property rights, legal documents, and more, the authors
say.
