SAO PAULO--Petroleo Brasileiro SA Chief Executive Jean Paul Prates met with other energy company bosses this week to discuss possible partnerships in renewable energy and to improve the use of oil and gas reserves, the Brazilian company said Wednesday.

Mr. Prates, who took over the job at the state-controlled oil company in January, has so far met with the heads of BP Plc., Malaysia's Petroliam Nasional Bhd., also known as Petronas, TotalEnergies SE and Equinor ASA during the CERAWeek energy industry event in Houston, Petrobras said.

During a meeting with BP's CEO Bernard Looney, the two discussed increasing cooperation between the companies, which already work together in oil production off the Brazilian coast. Petrobras and BP also considered BP's solar energy and offshore wind energy efforts, the Brazilian company said.

Mr. Prates and TotalEnergies' Chairman and CEO Patrick Pouyanne discussed the importance of research and development, while the Brazilian CEO and Petronas's Tengku Muhammad Taufik talked about refining and production of diesel R, a product with renewable content produced by Petrobras.
