BASF SE said Wednesday that it will expand its production capacity of cathode active materials in China as it looks to meet fast-growing demand in the electric-vehicle industry.

The production expansion will enable BASF's majority-owned subsidiary BASF Shanshan Battery Materials to reach an annual capacity of 100,000 tons of cathode active materials, the German chemical company said. the business operates in the two Chinese provinces of Hunan and Ningxia.

The commissioning of the expansion will start from the fourth quarter of 2022 and will produce manganese-rich products as well as high-nickel and ultra-high-nickel nickel-cobalt-manganese oxide for polycrystalline and single crystalline, the company said.
