Aspect Systems Licenses Matrix Reactive Ion Etch Product Line from
Axcelis Technologies, Inc. Further Expands Growing Portfolio of
Industry-Leading Legacy Products CHANDLER, Ariz., Aug. 20
/PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Aspect Systems, Inc., (ASI) a wholly
owned subsidiary of DND Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:DNDT.OB), today
announced that it has licensed another industry-leading legacy
product line from Axcelis Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:ACLS), thus
further expanding its growing portfolio of etch products for
semiconductor manufacturing. Under terms of the exclusive
agreement, ASI has acquired the right to manufacture, sell and
service all reactive ion etch (RIE) legacy product models
previously marketed under the trade names "Bobcat 209 RIE" and
"Cheetah RIE". These product lines came to Axcelis through its
acquisition of Matrix Integrated Systems in 2003. Although the
terms of the agreement were not disclosed-sales, service and parts
support for all RIE 150mm and 200mm systems will fully transfer to
ASI as of September 30, 2004. "By adding another high-performing
legacy etch product to our current offerings, we have further
expanded the breadth and depth of capabilities we can offer our
global customers," stated Dennis Key, chief executive officer of
ASI. "We're also pleased that Axcelis chose to outplace another
legacy product from its Matrix acquisition to ASI," said Key. "We
have enjoyed a relatively seamless transition of the other Axcelis
lines we've taken over and fully plan to duplicate that success
with this most recent product transition." "By licensing these RIE
technologies to a quality legacy product and service provider like
ASI, we ensure that customers have support for these tools without
diminishing our focus on tomorrow's technology solutions," said
Jan-Paul van Maaren, vice president and general manager curing and
cleaning, Axcelis Technologies. For the past fourteen years
ASI-with its disciplined focus on plasma-based technologies-has
distinguished itself as a premier supplier of after market plasma
process tools for the global semiconductor industry. Since 1990,
the company has been remanufacturing, innovating and selling Lam
Research AutoEtch(TM) systems, as well as providing spare parts and
associated services to support these workhorse tools in volume
production. In early 2003, (Jan. 21 business wire), ASI assumed
full responsibility for all aspects of global support for the
entire installed base of both the Lam AutoEtch(TM) and Drytek(TM)
products, including parts and service support. This license also
allowed for the manufacture and sale of any new systems that might
be required. Later in the year, (Nov. 10 business wire), ASI
announced the addition of legacy products to be manufactured and
supported on the Matrix System One and System Ten platforms, after
acquiring these exclusive licenses from Axcelis. About Aspect
Systems Aspects Systems is a well-established equipment and
engineering services company, offering a broad suite of services to
the semiconductor industry. ASI has recently directed its attention
to the growing market for equipment that has been proven to serve
the needs of discrete manufacturers who are building .25 micron and
higher devices on 100mm to 200mm wafers, and as such do not require
the more advanced, and capital intensive, equipment to achieve
their goals. During the past year, ASI has added to its plasma etch
product offering, refurbished and reconfigured system technology
built upon the highly popular Rainbow and TCP system platforms,
originally manufactured by Lam Research, Inc. It is ASI's intention
to continue adding relevant products and services, as they become
available to address the needs of this growing market. Safe Harbor
