McDonald's Corp. on Wednesday said it is opening a new Speedee Labs facility at its global headquarters in Chicago.

Speedee Labs will bring together teams from the company's corporate offices and its existing Innovation Center "in a new innovative environment creating more opportunities for collaboration and end-to-end development of restaurant solutions and technologies," the restaurateur said.

McDonald's said it introduced the Speedee Service System in 1948, adding "through Speedee Labs, McDonald's will continue to define tomorrow's restaurant solutions."

Speedee Labs is expecting a phased opening to begin in the second half of next year, the company said, adding it plans to relocate all jobs from its Innovation Center in Romeoville, Ill. to the new facility.
