Fujitsu today started sales of SAP S/4HANA Environment Provision Service, which enables companies to undertake a proof-of-concept migration to SAP's next-generation ERP S/4HANA, without the need to purchase SAP software licenses.

Aimed at customers considering migrating from an existing SAP ERP 6.0 system to SAP S/4HANA, this service offers a complete suite, including an IaaS environment, SAP software licenses, and an operations service, for a monthly fee(1). In addition, because this service allows customers to use the SAP Cloud Platform, the cloud service SAP is promoting as an application development platform for SAP S/4HANA, customers can check the operation of their applications in the new environment.

This service enables a trial migration without purchasing an SAP S/4HANA software license, allowing customers to observe how the system will respond to actual tasks. They can evaluate their decision in implementing the system by checking the practicality of a migration and getting a rough estimate of the required investment. Fujitsu is launching this service initially in Japan(2), and will be expanding it around the world going forward.

Fujitsu will continue to offer a variety of services supporting the deployment of and migration to SAP S/4HANA, which provides next-generation ERP supporting digital business for customers.

Background

In order to achieve digital transformation, a variety of elements are necessary for mission-critical systems that make up systems of record (SoR), such as an interface that can flexibly connect with systems of engagement (SoE), high speed data processing, an integrated user interface, and a platform for rapid application development. Utilizing SAP S/4HANA and SAP Cloud Platform, which combine all of these elements, has become one of the most effective methods of achieving digital transformation quickly.

Reportedly, there are currently about 2,000 systems in Japan operating SAP ERP 6.0, for which maintenance support is expected to end in 2025. In order to migrate from an existing SAP ERP 6.0 system to SAP S/4HANA, it is necessary to test whether assets, including independently developed add-on functionality, can be migrated. Until now, customers also needed to purchase SAP S/4HANA software licenses, even when they were conducting temporary migration trials.

Now, as the first part of a comprehensive collaboration in the cloud business with SAP SE, announced on June 5, 2017, Fujitsu has signed a Partner Managed Cloud license agreement with SAP Japan, SAP SE's Japanese subsidiary, to offer the world's first SAP S/4HANA Environment Provision Service, providing a trial environment that includes SAP S/4HANA software licenses.

Features of the Service

The SAP S/4HANA Environment Provision Service includes a dedicated IaaS environment and enables trial migrations to SAP S/4HANA(3) without purchasing software licenses. This service can be purchased monthly from three months up to six months, and questions regarding SAP software can be answered by Fujitsu's SAP-certified consultant.
