Audible, Inc., the world’s largest seller and producer of
downloadable audiobooks and other spoken-word content, today
announced the release of a new, in-depth interview show created and
hosted by comedian Michael Ian Black that enlightens listeners on
How To Be Amazing. In the show, Black gets today’s most fascinating
celebrities and newsmakers to reveal exactly how they became
successful in their respective fields.
The first four episodes are available as a free download at
www.audible.com/amazing. The collection includes:
- Episode 1: Best-selling author
of Eat, Pray, Love Elizabeth Gilbert discusses her
creative process—where ideas come from, how she works, and how her
childhood experiences continue to influence her adult life.
- Episode 2: Tony Award-winning lyricist
Lin-Manuel Miranda (In the Heights) discusses his meteoric rise on
the Broadway scene at a very young age.
- Episode 3: Tavi Gevinson, who at the
age of 18 oversees a staff of 50 people
at Rookie magazine, shares how she successfully navigates
a life that would challenge many people twice her age.
- Episode 4: Actor, comedian, and author
Bob Odenkirk talks about his professional journey, from brash young
writer for Saturday Night Live, to working as one half of the HBO
cult comedy series Mr. Show with Bob and David, to becoming a
break-out star in the hit series Breaking Bad, which spawned
his own series, Better Call Saul.
Subsequent episodes of How To Be Amazing, including interviews
with Kevin Smith, Amy Schumer, Carl Tanner, Miranda July, Brian
Greene and more, will be available at audible.com on a semi-weekly
basis through the remainder of the calendar year.
“There’s a real advantage to doing this show in audio,” said
Michael Ian Black. “Audio is such an intimate format, both in terms
of the interview itself and how it’s conducted. It’s so personal
and so physically close. There are no lights or technicians
hovering around, there’s no mark that you have to hit. It’s very
straightforward. And then on the flipside, from the listener’s
point of view, it’s also very intimate. You’re inside the
conversation in almost a literal way. Also, I can wear whatever I
want and I don’t have to shave; nobody knows.”
“We are delighted to share Michael Ian Black’s interview show
with our listeners,” said Audible Publisher and EVP Beth Anderson.
“Who wouldn’t want to eavesdrop on these informative and amusing
conversations with truly interesting people?”
Audible invented and commercialized the first digital audio
player in 1997, and has since been at the forefront of the
explosively growing audiobook download segment. In 2014, listeners
around the world downloaded 1.2 billion hours of audio from
Audible.com outlets; Audible members downloaded an average of more
than 17 books over the course of the year. More than half of
current Audible members are first-time audiobook buyers.
