Groupon Launches in South Korea

Groupon (http://www.groupon.com) announces the launch of Groupon
Korea (http://www.groupon.kr.) Beginning March 14, 2011, the site
will offer unbeatable deals on the best to eat, do, see and buy to
consumers in Seoul, Gyeonggi Province, Busan and Daegu, with 11
cities to be served by the end of April.
“The collective buying space in Korea is exploding,” said Rob
Solomon, president and chief operating officer of Groupon. “There
is a huge opportunity for Groupon Korea to emerge as a leader,
leveraging the best practices we’ve pioneered around the world to
bring a higher quality of local daily deals and better consumer and
merchant experiences.”
Since its launch in November 2008, Groupon has led a worldwide
movement in e-commerce, using the principles of collective buying
to bring millions of dollars in new revenue to local businesses
while saving more than $2 billion for subscribers.
The launch of Groupon Korea builds on Groupon’s already robust
Asian presence, currently serving nine countries including Japan,
Hong Kong and India and China in coming months. Groupon Korea joins
Groupon’s global network, serving 60 million subscribers in 45
